Abstract: This presentation makes recommendations for teaching about interculturality. Professor Dervin suggests introducing and problematising different ways of thinking about the notion and letting students evaluate theoretical and methodical stances. He will provide examples of how to introduce this polysemy in e.g. teaching. He will also warn against using simplistic models of intercultural competence since they might give a false sense of ‘invisibility’ and preparedness for interculturality, which, he argues, cannot be achieved.

Prof. Dervin specializes in intercultural education, the sociology of multiculturalism and student and academic mobility.
